Disappointed with Nod32 V4...BSOD's with Vista SP1 (assuming firewall issues), incompatibilities with Vista SP2 that are as of yet unresolved...not sure I want to rollback to V3. Any suggestions for a suite that:
a) Will scan e-mail with sbcglobal (SSL connection)?
b) Small footprint, small hit on system resources
c) Accuracy (minimal false positives)
Free or paid, doesn't matter...looking for a good product.
Thanks in advance!

A Short search will bring you up many answers.

I've searched..and read...and read!..but very few posts indicate whether or not an AV will scan e-mail sent through SSL...thus the question.

As long as people focus specifically on the "scan email sent via SSL" requirement, then this thread is okay. Otherwise, it will end up being another "what AV should I run?" thread where everyone just posts their favorite product. There's a policy against that kind of thread. See the sticky thread at the top of this forum section:

So, products with SSL email scanning capability?

I use Avast! to scan all my SSL email, pop3, imap and smtp. Thunderbird is primary client, but I have done it with others. It requires a custom setup to use some third party products, Stunnel and OpenSSL, but is fairly straightforward to set up. There are instructions for Gmail and some other products on the Avast! site if you do a search. AVG also says they do it, but I haven't used it personally. Basic problem is that if you encrypt/decrypt in the client, external programs like AVs can't decode it. So either built in or externally you need to be able to scan first then encrypt or decrypt and scan outside the client, unless it has equivalent features built in. Avast! says it will be built in for version 5, but in the meantime Stunnel works fine.

I would like to point out Kav 6 is out of support but version 7 does of course have that function.

Kaspersky v.6, v.7, v.8 (a.k.a.2009), v.9 (a.k.a.2010) have that option, for earlier versions I am not sure (see pic)
