View Full Version : Upgrading to a higher build number...

I have read here that if you are installing a newer version of, for example, ESS, that you should remove the previous version first.

Does that also include changing for v4.0.314.0 to 4.0.437.0? I appreciate that upgrading from v3 to v4 would necessitate complete removal of the older product. However, upgrading from a different build number for the same version it is not clear to me whether to completely remove the lower build.

Thanks for reading.

I have always upgraded without uninstalling. V4 copy im running now is also upgraded from v3, and I have used all builds from both. No problems for me.

I do always check 'dont close applications (reboot required!)' (or something allong those words, the non default MSI option). Never had a problem like this, and a reboot is not even necessary, ESET software only recommends that after the upgrade, which I still do.

Thanks you for the reply.

In this instance I exported my settings and uninstalled the older build. I installed the new higher build level and then imported my previous settings.

All up and running, although I am loath to install Vista SP-2 until there is a newer version of ESS that reportedly works better with SP-2.

I'm here for the same question, whether to un-install previous builds of Eset security suite before installing a more recent build (all still in version 4). I looked over the update download area and read the quick installation guide, but there is no mention of how to install an udpate.

A suggestion to ESET staff, to provide some explicit instructions on how to install the update and whether it's necessary to uninstall a previous version first.

The download page is ambiguous as it says to uninstall previous versions of security programs and proceeds to give links to uninstallers. But the page says nothing about existing installations of ESET products.

It is recommended to uninstall the ESET software before installing a newer build. This just ensures that there is nothing that can conflict with the new version.

From the download page:
-{ Quote: "Before installing, we recommend uninstalling your current protection (including older versions of ESET software), to ensure a smooth transition." }-
