My ESET ESS v3.0.684.0 has a firewall module of 1040(20080924), and while looking at the forums Iv'e noticed that the firewall module of v4.0.437 is 1046 (20090429), I'm just wondering if I can upgrade my firewall module without going to ESS v4.0.437

No, ESET firewall is tightly integrated with each build of ESET.
