tds-3 stopped working

locks up on scan. tried to delete and re-install but with out results.

Maybe onslaught of virii recently (and their eradication) changed some files.

Hi Libbo,
sad story.
Has all scanning stopped completely or does it happen on a special file or location in your system? In that case something else could be the matter: for instance a very large file, a corrupt rar file, files locked by other scanners, etc, damage on the HD, many options thinkable.
Did you recently install other software?
Is there any reason to think of a recent infection?
Did you try an online scan as second opinion?

no recent software and did run online scan

it locks up scanning on 1st file sys32\smss.exe

Should progress after scanning that file, simply WAIT :)

If nothing happens for quite some time, please verify your system files as per this page

re-installing the runtime update solved the problem!
