This is a national poll to see how many times people scan with their AVs. LOL On a side note you can also put down in a post on how many times you use your At's and spyware scanners if you want also. :)

Don't call me paranoid, but I'm paranoid. :P I alternate everyday between the AV and spykillers and anything that has to do with stopping the nasties!

Generally I'll do a full "housecleaning" once or twice a week -- a-v (avast!), Ad-Aware, registry cleanup, chkdsk, and defrag. Plus an additional then-and-there with avast and Ad-Aware if anything doesn't seem right, or I just have a funny instinct.
Plus I've got the resident protection of avast and SG, and the "almost-resident" SB, to keep an eye on things in between full scans.

Once per week, I'll run a full scan with Norton AV. As for AdAware and Spybot S&D, it's a bit less frequently on average, but always after there's been an update.
For an AT program, I recently downloaded the freebie from a2, so it's a bit too soon to be saying how often I run this one. Right now, though, it looks like it's going to be once per week minimum, as the free version has no 'run in the background' capability.

I usually do a full system scan with Nod32v2 every other day. ;)
As far as spyware programs i always run Spybot S&D and or Ad-awarePlus everyday.(paranoia kicking in :o)
As far as AT, i use Boclean so no scan needed there and for Keyloggers and other nasties i use SpyCop which takes forever to scan so i only do it once a week. ;) *puppy*

Hi,
My AV scanner runs every night when i walk the dog. Frustrating because it never found a virus when i come home.
AT varies but twice a week is common.

I have AV and AT real time monitors and and maybe use my AV's on demand scanner about once a month. Ditto for on demand spyware apps. Works for me.

Yup, a couple a times a week unless I'm really bored or there's a bunch of alerts from the AV/AT vendors, MS or CERT! Occasionally, I do it just to give my CPU some excercise! (I'm a low-maintenance type of guy!) ;D

Wow. I used to be paranoid. I used to run my AV everyday. Now I only run it once a week. I run spybot Adaware once a month. I really don't clean my registry because there's not point unless I unistall a program.

AV three times a week in the middle of the night (3 am). The rest of the night a distributed computing program is running.
Trojan- and spywarescanning around once a week.

A/V = resident scanner always on; on demand scan once a week.
A/T = resident guard always on; on demand scan once a week.
Spybot-SD and Ad-Aware = always after an update (sometimes I'll do a demand scan with them after I've been searching through google).

Full scan with AV (Antivir & Avast) at least once per week. Keep them fully up-to-date/time every day. Also, do scans with everything else after AV scan. Have kept system very clean so far. 8)

Hello all,
I have NOD32 set up to automatically scan MBR and Memory after every update. AMON and IMON always on. NOD32 on demand one time a week.
TDS-3 set to all possible scan options at boot with exec protect alway on. Full system scan once a week, usually on weekend after all the weekly updates.
Trojan Hunter once a week with Trojan Hunter Guard always on.
AdAware after each update. The same for SpyBot Search and Destroy.
I also have several on demand only AV's that I use as needed to verify possible false positives if I have any. Other than that I use them about once a month for full system scans....

Kent

I have Nort AV set to run every nite. I also run SpySweeper every morning. AdAware & Spybot S&D, get run every other day, alternating. And, of course I have Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, along with MRU Blaster, which I run occasionally, as I'm the only one with access to the pc.
I also am running a 'trial version' of Trojan Hunter, running every nite as well. Still not decided if I will buy or not, will probably try some others too.

I scan with an a/v(Dr.Web) and an a/t(the Cleaner) once a week.
If I have suspicions of something not being "right" then I scan at that time also.

I scan for nasties regularly. Anyway, i usually don't download any programs, so my computer is always spyware-free.

I do a full scan with McAfee AV-8 every 6 hours (midnight, 6am, noon, 6pm) and a full scan with TDS-3 every 6 hours (3am, 9am, 3pm, 9pm).
I scan with the following twice a day: Ewido (1:30am & pm), Adaware (7:30am &pm), Spybot (4:30am & pm).
In between scans, I run Bazooka, Hyjackthis, and CWshredder.
I also keep no data or files on my computer other than operating system files and security apps, so feel quite safe.
I only need to figure out what good this computer is doing for me now.

I also scan with adaware 6 every couple of days and also with spybot 1.3 as well every couple of days and also with bazooka.

AV...full hard drive scan about once every 6 to 8 weeks. However, I set download express to scan each downloaded program because I do not run a full time AV resident scanner. No infection since 2000.

You guys will probably wonder about mine, but:
AV: About 4-8 weeks.
AT: Same
AdAware: Every 7-10 days, depends on my surfing. [edit: I will do a full scan if I have browsed to new sites in a session that are not security/like minded sites]
Spybot: Same.
Reasons: Well, I used to scan religiously every week with AT [TDS3] and had my AV set to autoscan every Monday and Friday early mornings. [Was running PC-Cillin at that stage, now run KAV 4.5 PRO].
The thing is, TDS and KAV are running at RTM all the time, so therefore, logically, anything that's going to happen will be picked up by them at the moment of "impact" so to speak.
If they don't alert/stop at that time, then a full system scan is not [IMO] going to detect any more then, as it should have stopped the infection in the first place.
You may say "yes, but there are new defs every day, what about detection of new stuff".
Simple! The new stuff never existed at that particular point in time, and so when new defs [particularly with KAV updates *every* hour and using Extended Data Bases covering Trojans/Malware] do come out, it is irrelevant to the past scanning as they did not exist at that time.
I have several test trojans/virri on HDD, and have KAV set up to 'Alert Only' and so I have to be there at time of scanning to Allow/Block once it starts alerting on the test files, before it can continue further.
I do religiously scan with everything *ANY* downloaded file/s before execution. KAV/TDS/WG. I download to a special folder on desktop, scan and open, rescan each individual file again if they are .exe's just to be doubly sure.
If you don't trust your AV/AT, etc. you will spend your whole time "getting second opinions".
btw, I don't even get tracking cookies. :)
TAS
edit again: I do also have SpywareGuard running RTM along with SpywareBlaster's set killbits.
I guess I am lucky in that the only time I have even seen/come close to a nasty [apart from my test ones] was in 2001 PC-Cillin caught a relatively harmless 'Noclose.JS exception' from somewhere and about 2 months ago KAV detected a NETSKY email attachment, as soon as I even 'moused over' the email, let alone open it.

I generally set my scanners running if I have things to do about the house.
AV - basic boot scan and full system scan daily (heuristic scanning in background)
TDS basic scan when launched plus full system - daily (resident)
Ad-aware basic scan at boot (generally make sure to scan when new reference file added)
Spybot (not so frequent with this but make sure to run at sometime in the week) I find with this after the first install scan and clean nothing is found.
If I am not at my computer a scan is running but about the house ::)

I scan once every 15 minutes with the following apps:
SpyBot S&D, Ad-aware, Norton AV, McAfee and CCleaner. I then do quick reg checks with RegSupreme and jv16.
It only takes 14-1/2 minutes between scans.

Anti-Virus - Just once a month
Anti-Spyware - Once a week
Anti-Trojan - Once a month
I have resident AV protection with KAV and resident AT protection with BOClean. I will perform a full scan once a month to check if something got on my pc before my AV or AT had definition's for it. My AT scan is performed using TrojanHunter. As for spyware, well currently this seems to be the most common form of malware these days so i scan once a week. But i do also have resident spyware protection using SpywareBlaster and Spy Sweeper.

Full scan few times a week or every day? You guys gotta be kidding! ;D
A do a full anti-virus scan once or twice a year since I'm already well protected in real-time. Last virus I had? It was the year 1987... man, that's a looong time ago! ;D
