Hi,

I currently own a copy of TrueImage, and I am interested in purchasing Disk Director Suite. I was wondering if I would be able to do the following:

1. Create a standard Windows XP Pro installation on one partition with all necessary drivers installed where the boot partition appears as drive C.

2. Use TrueImage to make a backup of this partition

3. Restore this backup a new partition, so I have two identical partitions with XP installed.

4. Use Disk Director to make it so that I can boot to either of the above partions, and so that whichever partition I booted to, the boot partition appears as C.

5. If I could do the above, than I would restore the same backup to a third new partition and use Disk Director to add this partition as a third OS choice, again with the boot partition appearing as C.

(When I boot to one of my three partitions, I do not need the other two partitions to be visible).

If anyone can tell me if this is possible, I would really appreciate it.

thanks in advance,
Paul Kraemer

What version of TI are you planning on using?

It should work okay to do what you want. You can use OSS or a different boot manager, as you wish.

When you do the restores, you'll need to make sure that TI doesn't try to mix the booting partitions. I would restore the partition as Active and make sure the other partitions are hidden before starting.

You can also do what you want with just DD by copying the single XP partition.

Hi MudCrab and PaulKraemer,
I would love to do this as well.
That is, having one instance of c: restored several times on the one disk, each one to boot as c: while the others are hidden.
I have XP and
TI versions 9.3677 and 9.3854 and 10.4942
I gather I need disk director suite as well.
How did you go with this PaulKraemer?
What TI version is ideal for this task MudCrab?
I will purchase a later version if necessary.
Would you mind outlining a procedure or pointing me to one that I could follow in order to achieve this.
I have attempted this before but with screwed up partition tables and drive letters and crosstalk between unhidden partitions.
Thanks.

This doesn't sound legal :)
