Hi Coldmoon,
I have read your post about next beta and new features, and I'd want to ask you two questions: will next beta require more resources than actual version?
One of the most appreciated aspect of Returnil is the lightness.

Returnil will implement an antimalware solution, but will it protect itself against termination attempts (anti-termination protection feature)?

I am very curious about this new version :)

{QUOTE-> ...One of the most appreciated aspect of Returnil is the lightness.... <-QUOTE}

It is very light in my testing and am looking forward to the feedback :)

Self-protection is part of the development schedule but may not be specifically available in the initial builds as there are quite a few things to prove stable and some additional features that will need testing and feedback before it is fully implemented.

One interesting note is that the Beta appears to be compatible with current Antivirus solutions which means that you would not need to uninstall your current AV to use RVS 2009.

Overall, there are two cautions at the moment:

1) You should not use the "Wipe disk changes" feature if you have McAfee's Total Protection installed

2) RVS 3 is not yet completely compatible with FAT32. This is being worked on and the file system will be supported as soon as possible

Few question

1)Will we ever see memory cache option in Returnil 3 again?

2)Why doesn't Returnil implement a behaviour blocker instead of a signature based scanner?

3)Are write operations, with disk cache actived, sequentially written?
I've read that this effect can improve write performance in Solid State Disk (this (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=318673#post318673) is a benchmark with SteadyState)

Hi developers,
{QUOTE-> 1)Will we ever see memory cache option in Returnil 3 again? <-QUOTE}

Yes and no. V3 will include dynamic caching as required. This means that the methods are being more tightly integrated with one another to provide a more simple/seamless configuration with the same capabilities.

{QUOTE-> 2)Why doesn't Returnil implement a behaviour blocker instead of a signature based scanner? <-QUOTE}

Stay tuned ;) We have been working on the core of the 4x generation for quite some time already which will include behavioral analysis as well as other advanced features. I would love to go into further details on this, but for the time being this is as far as I can go. Look for more details after the launch of version 3...

Thanks!
It seem that Returnil will become a very interesting proactive solution beyond his Instant System Recovery capability :)

Will the final build be localized in other european languages?

Coldmoon

Yes, there are plans to add localizations as soon as possible. We will be releasing instructions to our translators during the Beta and before the final release as to how to do this.

Those interested in translating should contact us and let us know:

1. Language(s) they wish to translate for
2. Any previous translation experience

Thanks in advance to all who want to participate.

Coldmon -
So far, Beta looks good, but I have some questions.
First, when I got my email alert, I copied the link to my browser, and didn't save the message in Thunderbird. Is there anything else in the email that is important enough to ask about?
Second, what do I do about registration? Do I use my existing valid regular key, or did I miss it in the email? I tried without a code and the request was denied.
Will use the methods in the included docs to file any reports, but above general questions might arise with other users as well. Thanks.

Hi gb63,
{QUOTE-> First, when I got my email alert, I copied the link to my browser, and didn't save the message in Thunderbird. Is there anything else in the email that is important enough to ask about? <-QUOTE}

Yes, for issue reports please make sure you include:

{QUOTE-> 2. Testing reports: You can submit your report directly via the RVS interface using the Report a Problem link or choose to send an email to our technical support: support-tech@returnil.com. If you email us, please include a MSINFO32 report when submitting your beta testing results. This will help us to identify common software packages being used at the same time as RVS and to ensure we can investigate compatibility efficiently.

We also ask that you include the following log files (if present):

• Install log: %SystemRoot%\rvs3-inst.log
• Client log: %SystemRoot%\rvs3.log

To create a MSINFO32 report, please do the following:
a. Click Start and then

• Windows XP: Open the RUN box, enter MSINFO32, and then click the ENTER key to open the Windows System Information utility
• Windows Vista/Win 7: Type MSINFO32 in the “Start Search” box and then click the ENTER key to open the Windows System Information utility

b. Click FILE > EXPORT to create a System Information report.
c. Locate the report you just made and attach it to your Beta testing report.
<-QUOTE}

Note: Win 7 information is included for reference when we activate Win 7 support in the installer.

{QUOTE-> Second, what do I do about registration? Do I use my existing valid regular key, or did I miss it in the email? <-QUOTE}

RVS 3 includes automated registration and activation. When the final is released, users will need to fill in the user/owner information in the client or in bulk for the Management console and then request registration. This will happen in the background at some point following installation when the program/console is able to communicate with our servers.

During the Beta, we ask that you fill in available information so this can be tested thoroughly before the final release.

Our LAB version (new feature test bed) still uses the older v2x registration method so you can use your current 2x Serial Number to register it. I will be posting information about this version in its own thread with download information later today.
