Hey

Are any of you using Software Firewalls like VisNetic Firewall, 8Signs Firewall or something else that only offers Packet filtering and no Application filtering? You may be interested in a program called “AlertWall”.

To give you slight taste of this program here are few screenshots:

Recommended visiting the screenshot page which includes Information on the side of the images which I didn’t include here, http://www.alertwall.com/helptut.asp.

Here is the main page http://www.alertwall.com/

There is so much I like about this program for small instance this program allows you to Control Applications accessing Client environments and/or Server environments such like Sygate and ZoneAlarm. There are many more beautiful feature to this program, but be-aware if you looking for some sandbox like Application Filtering Software, this is most likely not for you. Possibly try checking out pcInternet Patrol http://www.pcinternetpatrol.com/downloads/pcip.php.

If you had already tested this program or started testing this program and you like to share your thoughts, go right ahead. And if you know of something even better which works as a standalone App-Filtering then please add to are beginning list.

Well I looked, and when tried to download the trial version get directed to Zone Alarm Pro. >:(

If this has been taken over or is just another name of Zone Alarm then they should clearly say so.

If you can find a clear Alertwall download addy then please let me know, but ZoneAlarm slowed my system to a stabdstill before and I wont let it do it again.

Cheers I will give it a go. I am on the lookout for a decent firewall that is easy on my system and will not cause slowing problems with my on-line gaming. Sygate 5.5 personal does the slowing down thing wonderfully, and I tried LooknStop, but I just couldnt get the damned thing configured to allow me to play online, although it did seem lighter on my pc.
I will try Alertwall, and possibly Outpost as well.

Phant0m,

Not quite sure what to make of this. Superficially, it looks very interesting as an inexpensive addendum that could be used in conjunction with Win XP's ICF, for example. If that's true, it might be roughly equivalent to one of the early versions of ZA (free) -- but then that was free! ;)

What I don't see documented, however, is path authentication for the executable, never mind some sort of hash authentication.

a1tech rings some sort of bell to me, also. Unfortunately, at this date, I no longer remember if it was a good bell or a bad bell. :-\

Hey Joseph V. Morris

Yea, I definitely am not recommending people to jump from Software Firewalls with Application Filtering Layers and onto this baby. I’m more less letting people know there is something better then NOTHING AT ALL when it comes to using simply Packet Filtering systems with no Application Filtering. For instance 8Sign Firewall, this AlertWall does lack in many crucial aspects and probably what you had mentioned but I’m going to try working with the vendor to make this a much better App-Filtering System.

If people are interested of my progress, I will post in addition to what I have here… ;)

Okay, now I understand your point a bit better. Go for it -- and keep us informed about progress, okay?
