Do any secure erasing prgms work when erasing or "secure moving" from one PC to another over a home network? Anyone had any experience w/ this?
Currently using Eraser 5.86a.
Like to move a large # of files from an older XP machine to new Vista x64 hm prem one.
So far, found nothing whether any wiping prgms work PROPERLY across home networks on shared files / folders. Even if they appeared to work, it's conceivable the wiping or secure moving doesn't work as it would on a single machine.
Thanks.

If you have Eraser running on the XP machine, why don't you just copy the files over to the Vista computer and then erase them (using Eraser) on the old computer? Doesn't seem like there is any network issue to be concerned about.

Thanks. Two questions on that.
When you copy files (using Windows), it creates a temp file / copy somewhere (I believe). Even though Windows may delete those temp files after the copy / move process is complete, they're not securely deleted.
May be wrong, but was under impression that method would then require wiping the free space of that disk or partition to securely wipe the data. That is the whole purpose (I thought) behind the "Secure Move" feature of Eraser. Doesn't require wiping free space after the move.
2nd, (unrelated) having problem moving ANY files folders from old XP PC to new Vista PC over the network, when folders are set to "share" on both PCs.
**Both PCs names show up under the Network & Sharing Center on Vista PC.
I can access the shared files on the XP box from Vista box, but not vice versa. If use the XP box to look at shared file on Vista box, XP either says "access denied," or sometimes asks for User Name & PW. I read the Vista help files, but never saw exactly where the user name & PW should be entered, or if it mattered what was chosen (i.e., would user name entered in Vista network & sharing have to be the XP Computer Name, or anything I chose)?
I tried temporarily turning off file sharing PW protection in Vista, but still couldn't access Vista shared files from XP box.
