View Full Version : FF switch-to-secure page warning: then what?

Hi
I love the Firefox feature to alert me whenever I'm about to switch from a non secure page to one that's secure (or the other way around) but the trouble is that it does only that: warn. If I decide not to switch to the secure page, what am I to do next?
Unlike in, say, Opera, there's no chance to preclude the switch. There's no cancel option anywhere :(

accessalternative, these Firefox Warning Messages (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Security+panel#Warning_Messages) are more like remainders, because if you click on a link, the action to go to that secure site was initiated by you. If in the split second after clicking that link, you change your mind, you are correct, there is no way to cancel your own actions, provided the secure site identified itself correctly via a Certificate.
Now, if the secure site had an invalid Certificate (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel#Certificates), you would have received a Certificate Warning (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Secure+connection+failed#Certificate_warnings), similar to Opera, allowing you to choose whether or not to visit that site by bypassing the warning.
If you leave a secure site for one that is not encrypted, you will get the warning message (if selected in the Security Panel settings), yet you still initiated that action, thus no way to cancel your own actions.

Generally I don't bother with the warning that I'm entering a secure zone, and have that one disabled. For fairly obvious reasons, my concern is mainly that I'm reminded when I'm moving the other way, off a secure site (or to a mixed-content one).

MikeBCda, I couldn't agree with you more and I have it the same way. Sometimes when you are on a secure site, links take you to mixed content, as you say, and that's when I need the warning.
Anyone reading this thread, and using Firefox, should enable the I leave an encrypted page for one that isn't encrypted warning option.
