Open Movieditor is fine for my needs in Ubuntu i.e. I don't have a camcorder,
only use it to edit videos like .mov etc. residing on my hdd. and for slideshows.
I suppose Kino and Cinelerra are only for folks that have camcorders and load
their dv's into these programs - or am I wrong and they can also be used
to edit say a clip downloaded from say YouTube or a divx video etc. ?
Any recommendations for CentOS specifically ?
Edit: Looks like Kino is OK afterall ....
"Kino CAN import and export almost any format, contrary to your comment.
However, yes, it does convert to dv internally to do the editing, which
is a waste of resources. However, it works well and is easy to use."

Hi Ocky,
Where can I find Open Movieditor - i.e. either source code or repository for Ubuntu?

I am not at Ubuntu PC right now, but I think it is in the repos.

You can add the Frei0r plugins for various extra effects ...

Hi Ocky,
The reason I asked was that w/universe and multiverse repos checked in addition to the default repos, and synaptic reloaded (Jaunty 9.0 RC), I did not see Open Movieditor after searching.
Is it possible, you have more repos/authentications/third party web sites activated? If so, could you list them from your Ubuntu /etc/apt/sources.list file?
Nevermind - got it! It was named: openmovieeditor (with 2 e's).
Thanks,

Here's a simple tutorial.. Open Movie Editor Tutorial (http://propirate.net/repos/openme-developers/doc/tutorial.html)
You will see that Quicktime DV is the one to use. Then use ffmpeg to reduce
file size and convert ..
Regards and good luck.
