I just came across this article of PCWorld. I believe it illustrates quite well what most folks over here think about the way they should protect them selves. I thought of sharing with you guys. Have a good reading.

Interesting. I tend to agree with the first dude, although I don't try to set such a radical tone. But like I've been saying for some years, good firewall, good browser, don't execute random stuff, works for every situation. It's as simple as that. I had my moment of weakness/hobby when desktop security software seemed interesting, now I realize it's an obsolete concept.

I suppose if one is a hermit, or spends all their time in a corporate cube farm, that may be a valid position to take.
Myself, my PCs are notebooks. I have not had a desktop or tower (i.e.: non-portable) PC for over a decade. Being mobile means I do not have total control over the access points and routers to which I connect at all times. So I run a local Firewall (http://windows.akajohndoe.com/secytools.htm).
