Hi

Yesterday, I gave a go and resized cluster size from 4K to 64K on my boot partition. By the way I am using XP.

It took a good 1hour and the result? :o
Right after BIOS initialization, it said,

A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart

>:( Basically DD didn't help this time again.
I had to boot with BartPE and restore the backup I have created just before.

Is there something I did wrong? or DD did something wrong? or XP does not support 64K cluster size on boot partition?

Thanks,
Sam

I doubt that XP supports booting from a non-4K cluster partition. Vista and Windows 7 don't even support it. You would need to setup a small Primary partition to use for the booting partition (the Active partition) and then Windows could probably be run from a 64K cluster partition.

You might find this thread (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=184377) interesting.

This limitation has nothing to do with DD. It's just how Microsoft setup the booting code.
