Hi :)
I can remember when I got my very first computer XP - 3 years ago .. Being really confused about - Windows Updates V Microsoft Updates
I remember completely avoiding Microsoft Updates for the few months. Thinking that perhaps you had to pay for them as a extra :-[
I'm Using Vista Now!
And one of the few things that I really do like about Vista.. Is the way Windows / Microsoft Updates work :)
Rather that having to go to a Microsoft Website.. Like you do with XP
Windows / Microsoft Updates work different in Vista.
Updates still come automatically like they did in XP
But if you want to check for updates, see what updates have been installed, etc.
You don't have to visit a Microsoft website ... You just have to open the Windows Update - Window! :D
There you can...
Check For Updates
Install Updates that are waiting for you
Check what's been installed in the past. ( History )
Hide Updates .. OR .. Un-Hide Updates
And as for Windows Updates V Microsoft Updates
Getting Microsoft Updates along with the regular Windows Updates... Is just a case of clicking an extra Radio Button in the Settings 8)
