Could the install of IE8 or SP3 stop my HP scanjet 3600 series from working.

I had the same when updating to SP3 with an older deskjet3600, i did not pay attention to it at the time, took some time re-instaling it again (windows half recognises, so install of driver did not work properly, as far as I can remember I had to do something with the inf file of the driver or some file describing the driver)
