Hi all,

We backup our SBS2003 server to USB drives, and the full backup is around 142GB. We do this daily.

Over the last few weeks we've experienced a high number of fails, and I'd assumed it was a problem with the USB drives. However, I now think it's ESET 4.0 (.314 and .417).

Today I tried several attempts at copying a large (100GB) file to a USB drive. Each time it failed, after a few minutes. When it fails the USB drive disappears momentarily from Explorer, and the copy says "The device is not ready". So I then disabled checking of "removable drives" and it still fails, with the same error.

I have now disabled realtime protection on the server, and I've successfully copied 5 100GB files with no issues.

Given that I'm using "Default" file extensions, and I've got "Removable drives", "Scan on Open" and "Scan on Create" all disabled, and it fails, yet disabling RT Protection works, can anyone else suggest what to disable?

Please help, we're almost out of ideas. And dare I say it, this worked fine with 3.0.684.

Many thanks,

Jim

did you try to exclude the drive?

Yes I did. Last night the scheduled backup began at 11:00PM. it failed at 11:09. Same error as normal. Yet if I switch of realtime protection, it works fine.

I have all the right exclusions for a server.

Help!

I've reverted back to 3.0.684 on the server. And surprise surprise, we're back to successful backups.

That's now two servers where I've rolled back to 3.0.684, both for different reasons. Ho-hum.....

Too late now but if you ever decide to reinstall 4.0 apply these settings and exclude the backup software from being scanned.

What are the recommended settings for an ESET security solution installed on a server? (4.0)
