One only - IE8, but sometimes I have to download portable Firefox, because of problematic webpages.

Everyone, who does not use IE should have to instal latest version for security reasons.
Old IE's DLL and files can make 3rd party aplications vulnerable, even other browsers.

Iceweasel, Epiphany, Opera and Dillo!
Iceweasel everyday, Epiphany when on battery etc. :)
Epiphany, while basic, has some surprising simple features. It works and it's fast.

Difficult to say. On Windows, usually 3, IE cause it's there, FF as primary, Opera as secondary, in some cases. On Linux, depending on distro, there can be one or five, but mostly 1-2. So the average is 2, but use just one 99.5543% of time.

The comments next to the quantities don't fit reality. 2 is not "just in case" when one of the browsers is part of Windows and not normally removable. 3 is having an alternate browser as the default and testing another one, with Internet Explorer wasting space.
About half of my systems have 2 browsers. The rest have 3. All of them have SeaMonkey and K-Meleon. On a couple of them, Internet Explorer has been removed. The overall speed improvement on those systems is amazing.

Not counting IE which is tightly integrated with Windows (and which I use only for Windows Updates) I just have one browser, Firefox. I did have Opera for a long time as well but this poll actually made me decide to uninstall it. I rarely ever used it and decided it was just wasting space.

I have been using Firefox for years but I recently tried Chrome and the speed is winning me over. I am also playing with Opera but it is slower at times than FF. My thinking with Opera is that it may be the safest as it is probably has the fewest users.

Most features in a browser----- Firefox ,with its addons .(heavy and slowest)
Fastest ---chrome in my view.(No features)
Lightest--k meleon.(not famous and not unversal,no great addons)

Opera---quite universal, inbuilt addons and plugins, fast too.

You know, i click both mouse buttons and go back and forth in history?
I drag a word to a 'magically' appeared menu and choose Wikipedia to search?
I highlight a word, and an instant definition appears in front of my eyes, without leaving the webpage?
I click a button and download a video from Youtube?

Primary is Firefox 3.0.8
Secondary IE 8.0
Reason: I need to access a number of work related sites that are designed around IE, so in order to access these sites in Firefox, I use the IE Tab extension which needs to access the rendering engine of IE. And all is well.

I've been a user of Opera for as long as I can remember, right back to when it cost money to buy the full version! Absolutely love it. I use the Proxomitron local proxy for an extra layer of protection and for speed I turn off memory and disk caching.
I usually have K-meleon open on Windows as well, with no local proxy, mainly for websites that lose some functionality when using Opera through Proxomitron. Another excellent Windows browser.
On Debian/GNU Linux it's a mix of Opera, eLinks, and Iceweaver.
IE8 is a vast improvement on IE7 but I use it only in exceptional circumstances, when, for example, it is required. Thankfully this is less and less the case nowadays.
I've never liked Firefox on Windows. Slow and clumsy, and I've never liked the idea of having anybody and everybody able to contribute so many plugins to it.

Update - I had to remove Chrome as my default browser because as the default, it caused my computer boot ups to stall for 60 seconds in limbo, right after the Desktop appeared with no Icons or Taskbar. After the 60 second stall, the Icons and Taskbar appeared. No help from Google Forum or here so I uninstalled Chrome. I uninstalled because the reason I wanted it as the default was because used with Sandboxie, it accessed SBie super fast. The other reason was because if I click a url in an e-mail the web page accessed really fast. That was all lost waiting for the 60 seconds every boot up. :'(

twl845, if you check my attachment, Google has two executables loading with my system at start up. I use jv16 PowerTools 2009 to disable those entries as they just use resources unnecessarily.

I have manually updated Chrome since disabling those .exe. I think the reason Google has a lot running is because they want to be informed about anything that happens to their applications (some people believe to spy on you).
I'm not saying this is the solution to your problem, as I haven't experienced your boot up delay, but you can certainly try and see what happens.

Hi Osaban, I tried your suggestion but that wasn't it. An interesting observation. Looking at your attachment, I see the two files are located in C:\programs. I checked my entire Chrome installation and none of it is located in the programs folder. It is in C:\document and settings\my name\start menu\programs\google chrome. Notice where it says "start menu". That's the menu listing of Chrome. The only place I can find Chrome is in documents and settings. I did a search and the only items in Programs are the menu listing and the Desktop icon. I looked in Windows Explorer, and the only Google folder is for my Google Earth. I looked in that folder and Chrome isn't in there. I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed Chrome 3 times trying to fix the default problem, so re-installing it won't help. Hello there,
I don't know what to say, honestly other than running Vista 64 which has two types of Programs Files (native 64-bit, and x86) and the Google folder in there is related to Google Earth.
The Chrome folder is in the same location as yours: C:\Users\ \AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application.
If I remember correctly, you had some delays opening Firefox (with Sandboxie?), perhaps the problem is related to something else. I wish I could say something helpful, sometimes the solution might reveal itself by doing something apparently unrelated.

I think I may stumble on the answer at some point also. I uninstalled Chrome for the forseeable future when that day arrives. I think its gotta be a Chrome thing because FF, Opera and IE have all had their turn as default browser without a hitch. With respect to slow FF with Sandboxie, I have improved that a lot with a compatability fix from OnlineArmor. Thanks for the response. ;D

I voted for two, but not for the "just in case" purpose.
I use IE for online banking and anything else that I may have a privacy concern, and I use Firefox for all other "non-business" related activities.
(I also use OperaTor for sites that like to save my ip address. ;) ;D )

I have IE8, Firefox and Google Chrome. Getting ready to add Opera soon to see if it's any more tolerable than before. It seems as soon as I get to like a browser I find a news article about new tracking ware or ad ware the browser has been in bed with the whole time. I guess it has more to do with the tracking cookies and stats these days. But I really don't think a person can get on the internet with any feeling of privacy anymore.
I'm not sure how many people purchase items on the internet or how much online ads play a part in offline advertising (yes that's possible). But I don't think it's played that big a roll for me. I would probably pay a decent annual subscription rate just to have the trackers leave me alone.

Desktop: Chrome (default), Iron, Firefox, SeaMonkey, Safari, IE 8 (usually only used in 64 bit mode).
Laptop: Even more!
I like to have Chrome & Firefox on any computer. Iron & SeaMonkey are back-ups just in case & I like to use them for certain things. Safari has some features I like (reader). I've used Iron for a long time, well before I ever used Chrome. Unfortunately it is still not stable enough to be my default. This last version is one of the best they have done though.
Sometimes I just like variety. It's worth checking out other browsers & giving them a spin occasionally. Just to see. ;)

I thought Konqueror could run on Windows, I was always thinking of trying it out one day.
It is developed by volunteers and can run on most Unix-like operating systems and on Windows systems, too. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konqueror)

IE only because it comes with Windows and Firefox which is what I use all the time.

October 23rd, 2010, 08:09 PM
3 browsers that I usually have installed on my system:
IE8 since it comes with Windows. Hardly use it...not due to security concerns (I can harden it) but more of missing *features* that are important for me.
Firefox - default browser. Optimized and minimal add-ons. Currently on the V4 beta release and MineField.
Optional secondary browser - sometimes installed, sometimes portable version:
Google Chrome/Iron - using similar (fork) add-ons to those of Firefox.
I can't get myself to using Opera much yet no matter how many times I've attempted to. It's a very nice browser, filled with built-in features but it's missing certain touches that's fitted with my personal needs/wants. And it doesn't play nice with all sites...at least that's how it is for me. I'll have another go at it when V11 is released.
I used to toy around with other non-mainstream browsers frequently in the past but grew tired of the habit.

For more than a week now I use Chrome - very light and speedy start-up , lightening flash loading of pages and even MS pages load faster and better with Chrome than IE. I have tried on some computers and with IE my windows live hotmail loads slower with IE than with Chrome.

I got my bro hooked to Google Chrome Bwahahaha ;D
He have been an avid Firefox user since 2003~ and he was always liek Firefox is the best, but since he bought his NETBOOK Firefox was extremely sluggish (VERY VERY SLOW) on his PC, v3.6 was TOTAL CRAP (i'm talking seriously, he plays fifa manager on fb and it's unplayable). v4 was almost the same thing, slow startups, page rendering was slow, problems playing online games.
Then a few days back i was like come on give Chrome a try, and i installed V10 on his laptop, less than 10 minutes after, he installed Chrome Beta build ;D :thumb:
He was like OMGGG i feel i have a different pc now, it's so much damn faster ::)
