Hi,

What kind of issues were you having with Comodo? And what version were you using?

Cheers,
Josh

It would ask me to identify the network like 7 times even though I put a name in the first time and saved it.

Hi whitedragon551,

Just curious, have you considered upgrading to KIS 2009 and trying the firewall in the suite?

You could look at Online Armor. Free or paid version.

PCTools Firewall Plus free is another option you could check out..

I was going to check out PC Tools Firewall, but Spyware Doctor was system hungry even on a high end system.

It was just a question for thought, since you were already using KAV 2009. Some folks prefer stand alone applications instead of a suite, nothing wrong with that. If you go by the matousec results that you referenced (which factor in more then just the firewall itself in the suites rating) it is actually rated as "very good" though.

I am wondering, is there no place where someone with excess common sense has a composite list of all firewalls one could possibly use? Much like the CastleCops (if I remember correct) page that had many of the HIPS apps in a sort of comparison. So many ask the same question 'What firewall should I use', and that is a hard question to answer. I think trying many out until you find a balance between usability for your style and enough percieved protection.

It sure seems it would help to have one reference page for just those questions.

Years ago this (Wilders) site had lists of security programs like firewalls, antivirus etc...
It was very helpful for me as a newbie to computer security.
I guess I haven't thought about those lists until Sully's post.
There really aren't many good lists anymore.

The PC Tools Firewall is light on resources

If you are going to dismiss a firewall based on leak test results at Matousec then why ask on the forum?

A firewall to me is a packet filter, and I personally decide how good a firewall is based on its packet filtering ability.

@Stem

I understand completely. However, do you know of a tool that is similar to 'Little Snitch', where it waits for network attempts and has simple allow or deny? XP Firewall is IMO a good firewall for what it is designed for, but sometimes I do miss the ability to 'just say no'.

Hi sul,

Have you looked at the sticky post (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=24415) there are links which may help.

Most firewalls will have the ability to be setup (if not at installation/ by default) to only need to have an allow/deny type ruleset so you just allow or block the application.

Actually it perform very well in there... it is ranked 'very good' and recommended, so you reading of these tests looks a bit extreme. :)
