MiniDV camera

I need to do some video editing with a camera that isn't mine.

Obviously, there is some virus infection related risks with plugging a storage device in a computer. But is there any risks if I only use the firewire cable to capture video from the miniDV cassettes?

With USB, the camera is seen as a storage device but not with firewire...
