Infected - Search freezes

Have XP SP3

I am able to Search fine (Start/Search - then search for files/folders). "Search" finds what I am looking for & stops (with the correct number of found entries), but I can not dbl click and must use the Ctrl/alt/delete - as task is not responding.

I have tried re-installing Srchasst.inf
And tried a Hot fix - Q319949 - but my system is not compatible.

So - is my PC infected?
last nites Eset Scan was fine/clean.

Any fixes?

(I am not seeing any other issues with my PC)

Update:
Search DOES work in Safe Mode.

Tried Ad-aware, it stops mid way thru.
Eset's smart Security & the on line scan & Bit Defenders On line scan found nothing.

Probably not infected, Put your windows install CD in and try to repair your windows installation and see if that helps.
