If I delete a file that I don't want others to see and then write another file that I want to share with others in the same hard drive sector. And then copy the file that I want to share to a second hard drive or a CD, will the person who gets the 2nd hard drive or the CD be able to recover the first file that I just deleted?

In other words, can data remnants be transferred in this way?

If the answer is yes, it would be a privacy nightmare. Anybody could just download someone picture from Facebook and get the owner tax and banking information from it, even though the tax and banking information has never been posted to the site. Or your boss who gets your work submitted in a CD could do the same eventhough the tax and banking information has never been copied to the CD.
