VIPRE

Sunbelt software VIPRE, based off of Counterspy is a pretty new antivirus+antispyware product and is light on resources. I was trying to find detection rates of this software to try and compare it to others. I installed it before and I liked it alot, but can it compare to the top ranks like kaspersky, avira, norton, etc?

We don't really know that. For as far as I know, anything like the current VIPRE program hasn't participated in av-comparatives' tests.

I'm not sure about their ability to handle malicious scripts. Keep in mind, this company is smaller and one would expect that they have fewer resources.

But I suspect that if it's not first rate, it's at least second rate. Which is still good, especially if you enable certain HIPS/behaviour blocker features. And Sunbelt has a lot of experience in dealing with spyware, which is much more of a threat than the traditional virus.

If you really want to know, you'll just have to wait.

Ah yes I see. It's fairly new software so it hasnt been able to get extensive testing, so yeah I guess I'll just have to wait.

It will be about 12 months before an informed decision on the detection rates of Vipre can be formed.

The detection rates will have to be equivalent at least to Kaspersky/Avira/Avast/Norton in respected independent testing before it could maybe be considered a viable alternative.

We shall see.
