Hi I`m new to forum, so go easy on me if this is a dumb question. Anyway I click on live update and it starts to load, then I get a meesage that an [error downloading up dates]. Message reads, there was a error downloading updates. The last working definitions have been loaded from backups. My system OS Windows XP home PC is a HP 511w 128MB. I just recieved this message, (first time). Error reading spywareguard definitions! The file may be corrupt, or another program may have tampered with them. Run live updates to download the latest spyware guard definitions,(which I can`t).This message will appear when you try and start covered file types unless you disable protection in the spywareguard control panel,(which I have done, it`s like being naked in front of a million people)the only part left enabled was High Jacker. I reinstalled/unstalled SG because it wasn`t listed in add/remove programs and wouldn`t load updates, Them reinstalled it again hoping the unstall would get rid of the old program? I hope you understand what I was trying to do.I don`t use IE it`s to slow and full of leaks I use Netscape 7.0 or Opera 7.0 for browsers. I have Ad-Aware 6.0 and SpyBot 1.2 and run AVG 6.0 and got a clean scan, and use Spyware Blaster, Zone Alarm Pro for firewall.

Hi POSTERBOY, welcome to Wilders :)
Your message caught my attention, because of having simular problems with IveUpdate last week (if I understand you right-that is)
Anyway, no advice from me (yet), since I'm a newbie too here. But I'd like to welcome you aboard, and reassure you you've come to the right place- I had some great experience and expert-advice already:
HELP IS ON IT'S WAY ;)
One of the experts will soon reply.(I'll be monitoring this thread too)

If these don't get it done, try the manual update method here:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=20406;start=msg124138#msg124138
Also, if you're using a dial-up ISP with one of those '5X' accelerators, try disabling the accelerator before trying the download.

I have a similar problem on wifes PC. I go hit update, it hangs, then after awhile it shows a definitions to d/l, I hit d/l, it hangs, then the indicator goes , and yet no d/l install of the definitions. Server sends some kind of error thingy. So I gotta install manually. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SWB, but this doesn`t fix the problem. Any ideas? thx
I use Ad-Aware, and SpyBot S&D as well. And Norton Systems Works.

Have you defragmented your computer recently. If not, do so and then try to do the updates.

Good Morning; I have defraged have diskeeper 7 w/set it and forget it. runs on screen saver mode. The following log from SG, new BHO detection alert on 08:05:53 02/29/04 a new BHO installation attempt was detected BHO:{FDD3B846-8D59-4FFb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} Program ID: moneyside Browser helper object 10. File location C:\ programs\microsoft money\system\mnyviewed.dll. User Action Taken remove BHO. Is it easiest to download the files using Internet Explorer, I tried using Opera and I`ve only had it a few days it`s a little confusing right now. I ran Spybot S&D last night and cleaned out what it found, money side wasn`t listed with the other cling ons.
