In Ubuntu there is a nifty program in the repos. by the name of Assogiate with
which one can create a mime type for .mht files and even select a suitable
icon (plus of course other types of associations).
There does not seem to be a similar program for CentOS, so that I am stuck
with having to right click on .mht files and selecting 'Open with Opera'
- otherwise they will open in gedit as the file type .mht is recognised as
text/plain.
Maybe there is some manual way of fixing this - hopefully not too complicated.
Virtual bottle of very best Champers to first problem solver. ;D :argh:

Why not associate mht files with Opera?
And why not download assogiate and compile:
http://www.kdau.com/projects/assogiate/download.html
There's even a Fedora package (RPM!):

That's my point. You can't simply r/click>Properties>Open with Opera.
sure it will open with Opera, but then so will all the txt files, so then I have to
repeat the process and associate them with gedit - etc.
OK, I will try one or the other solutions you point to.
Thanks.

Hello,
You can hack gnome to let you do that ... :)
http://www.gnome.org/~jrb/files/mime/
Simply, right click, properties, select what you want them to open with.

Looks ugly. I'll play with it a little.
See what comes up ...
Any source where I might find mht files?

OK, sorted out. I downloaded the rpm from http://michael.kuerschner.googlepages.com/linuxrpmpakete
Wouldn't install in CentOS at first because of the repositories priorities
protection I assigned to rpmforge, so I temporarily disabled the base and
other repos. leaving only rpmforge. This way I had no trouble installing all
the missing dependencies using yum localinstall. (I also needed to import
the key).
Now my text files open in gedit and the web archive (.mht) files open in
Opera just by clicking on them.... See Screenshot.
PS. You can use IE to save a web page as web archive (.mht)
