Why Windows 7 should be a free upgrade

It would be really nice if Microsoft would give Windows 7 as a free upgrade, though I am not expecting they would do it. But who knows? If it turns out to be a good year for Microsoft, they might just do that.

I agree. It should especially be an upgrade for the people that already have Windows Vista. But, I think we should see if Windows 7 turns out to be any good before we start dreaming.

While it would be great for it to be a free upgrade, we all know it will never happen.

I've played around with Windows 7 for a week and think it's very good (especially since it's still beta). To me though, Windows 7 is basically Vista SE and I hope it is priced accordingly.

Like some other people, a few journalists live in cloud cuckoo land. This is one such. I am constantly amazed by people who feel they have a claim on the fruits of others' labours for free. They will always come up with what they feel are justifications, but the bottom line is different.

I think that customers should have freedom of choice.
Not matter if it's Windows '98 or Windows 13, hardware support should be made available for all releases.

I didn't read the article, however, I think for people who purchased PCs the past couple of years so that they could/would have the latest operating system have a gripe, especially if this is an answer to problems with or refining Vista. When they purchased Vista or vista machines, I'm sure they were under the impression that this was it for at least five or more years!

Why would they form such an impression? Windows 7 is not MS's "answer to problems with ... Vista" - it is the next evolutionary version of Windows. Users will not need to upgrade of they don't want to, and Vista will be supported for some years to come.

And where does this "5 years" come from? Look back over the version history of Windows - new versions have come out on average every 2 or 3 years. Vista was the exception, in that it was first released around 6 years after XP was.

As I said, it is easy for people to justify to themselves that they deserve something for free. It doesn't mean they are right.

ROFLMAO! :argh: True! MS is so desperate to have a new success in $$$ after XP, that will suck the blood out of everyone with Windows 7. Those that bought Vista too? Well, i hope they are wealthy to buy the "better Vista" after a few years from their previous purchase.
