I was reading a thread that was posted earlier (too old to reply to) that discussed the exact problem I have encountered. Q Section seemed to have figured it out, but i didn't quite understand what the solution was. I made the same misatake (aggressive regseeker binge), but my computer literally will not turn on.
Here is the original thread: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=173573
Q Seeker or anyone else, can you else please?!

From the last post on the old thread, it sounded like qseeker copied the reg file from a working machine to make it bootable. then from there, he restored his backup reg file.
Can't really recall the location, but I think its here: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\" for xp. And every system have a backup at: "C:\WINDOWS\repair\"
you will need two computer to do this, OR a boot disc that can read ntfs.
ALSO, from the old post, thanatos_theos said you can use "Eusing Registry Cleaner". never tried it myself, but go for it. http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

Thanks for the response, but i cant even get my computer to work long enough to get to the boot prompt. It freezes before then or never even turns on. I just push the power button and one of the lights blink for about 10 seconds then stop. Interestingly, i took the hard drive out of another laptop and loaded it into my laptop, and it still didnt start (and when it kind of did, it freezes shortly after).
How can this happen after i clean my registry? A new hard rive with the same op system loaded on it should fix it, right?
