What do you do with the Image file, i.e. where do you store it, can it be used to do a restoration as opposed to the snapshot? The advantage of v8.1 that I see over a third party image program, is that since EF boots first, you can easily get at the image. I'm just not sure what the advantage of the image would be over the snapshot, and indeed, if there is an advantage, that you can definitely access and use it. All of this is still very confusing for me. At this point I'm just happy to have something (Ay, which appears to be an earlier version of EF, free for a year) that is much more robust than windows restore.

From the Help file (emphasis added)...-{ Quote: "About Drive Image
Rollback Rx snapshots work like magic, you can take a snapshot of a PC in seconds, you can restore the PC to a snapshot in seconds. It's fast, easy, powerful and it uses very little resources. Rollback Rx made these impossible possible by protecting system and data in real time without creating and carrying duplicated copy of the system, this is the strength of Rollback Rx Snapshots. But on the flip side of the coin, this is also Rollback Rx's weakness, what if you do want to have a backup of everything to store on a server? What if the hard drive fails, how can you recover the system and data on a new hard drive?
Rollback Rx answers these questions by providing a simple and effective drive imaging solution, it allows you to backup partitions and disks to an image file. The image file is a clone image of hard drives. You can store image files on external drives and use them to recover to a new hard drive in an event of hard drive failure.

Thanks Blue! Well then I came to realize at least one advantage here, that being, taking the image while the IR program is installed (obviously you can since it's part of the GUI), as I've been advised not to use Norton Ghost while Ay is installed. But I guess you still can't use a disk, CD, thumb drive or anything to boot though. Is this correct?

ratchet,
In most situations where you need to revert your system to a prior time-frame that can easily be accomplished by restoring some prior snapshot, either from the EF/RB Restore Screen within Windows or by intercepting the bootup process and entering the EF/RB subconsole.
But what if your system won't even bootup as far as EF/RB sub-console!!! The cause can range from a corrupted/missing Windows System file to a crashed disk. In that case, your recourse is to use the Boot CD and recover the image made with EF/RB's drive image program or that which was made with a 3rd party program.
Using the EF/RB drive image program to create a disk-image captures your current snapshot and using the Boot CD you can restore the system to the state it was in when you made the image, but all other snapshots will be gone! While that's an adequate solution, a better solution is to use a 3rd party disk-imaging program like Acronis TI, DriveSnaphot, Paragon, ShadowProtect, etc., to image your entire AyR/EF/RB environment including all snapshots. Quite a few of us here do just that. ;)
