View Full Version : Critical Fix Needed

Hey fellow members:

I invite your solution to a issue i can't remedy for nothing and i done all i could find in Google.

Whenever i use the right-click menu to select a function, as soon as my mouse pointer passes SENT TO it immediately freezes right there and then for over 5 minutes and sometimes i have to reboot to flush away that problem and start over.

Does anyone on XP/XP Pro ever experienced this and is there a way to fix this without me having to delete SEND TO altogether?

On the same token, whenever i simply open My Computer it stalls what seems forever instead of opening up that drive display. I suspect the two are related someway but cannot for the life of me correct this quirk.

Any help for this prob is greatly appreciated. This is a first for me and has my hands tied on how to fix it so it opens normally in My Computer and the SEND TO menu doesn't capture my pointer and freeze it where i can't get to the menu item like move to or copy to, etc.

Thanks ever so much in advance. This is a real pain and annoyance that i read about before but never run into untill now.

THANKS

EASTER

I don't recall at the time if I had the 'send to' problem as well, but I did have it when opening 'my computer'

In my case I had to disable the Windows Image Aquisition service.

Thanks stapp

I'll try that and other corrections but if this keeps up i'll have no alternative but to remove the SEND TO altogether becaue this is getting in the way of my work and i can live without it if need be, Thanks EASTER

Hi,

When this happens, if you delete a file and send it to recycle bin and then empty the recycle bin, does it delete immediate or does it take time?

Do you have network drives in the list of your drives under my computer?

Well, whatever mystery decided to haunt me on this issue i've resolved both issues by completely eliminating thru the registry the SEND TO context menu and looks like all is returned to normal again. I get instant displayed response now on both of those screens. So i'll just leave it at that since i never bothered with SEND TO anyway.

Thanks for the sincere suggestions and replies.

In the future, Nirsoft makes a program called ShelExView, which is the tool you want to figure out what is going on. You can disable them, inspect what is where, and in general troubleshoot all your ShellExtensions, or context menu items. It is worth a look just to see what's 'under the hood'.

Thanks for trying to help Sully but i used it and it showed nothing whatsover out of the ordinary which just kept this mystery alive for me so i removed the SEND TO menu from the registry and everything is instant again with no stalls or delays.

I was right however that both those are somehow connected in making that weird issue.

All is well now and to dumper with the SEND TO menu in my case, i never used it anyway and all this did was cause undo concern and rediculous delays.

Just use your FD-ISR or Drive Snapshot to return to a working image will solve it:lurking:

Hi Easter,

'SendTo' redundant ? - Clean your 'SendTo' folder!

Run/sendto/OK/ ... now: delete the shortcuts that you did not need. A miracle!

... or : C/Documents & Settings/Your Name, Mr EASTEr:argh: /SendTo ...

OK? ...

@ Easter

A handy little tweak I came across a long time ago. Credit to the original writer. Sorry do not remember their name.
Add Copy to\Move to right click menu.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To]
@="{C2FBB631-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To]
@="{C2FBB630-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

Hi,

Did you check the content of folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\SendTo for inappropriate links ?

That happened on two of my kids' computers last year. It was due to a virus. I can't recall which one. Have a look in C:\WINDOWS\system32 for msupdte.exe. That can cause similar issues.

Telling Easter that he just might have a virus could push him right over the edge. LOL

That wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility seeing as i regularly test malwares and it grieves me to think even common spywares can easily be binded with a virus. Trouble with viruses of this nature, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Sounds like it could be an issue with your USB or CD/DVD drive. One of the biggest aggravations I have with the Send To menu is the way it has to read whatever's in the DVD drive when it opens the menu.

Edit: you might want to check out Sysinternal's Process Monitor when ever you have some unexplained freezing or cpu/fs activity.

Well Expresso this is only happened on one of many drives i have systems on so eliminating the SEND TO menu defiitely is not missed because i never use it anyway.

I even read a Google article where others experienced this and they had to remover .NET sql server listing in the registry to fix that issue, but it could be anything. The main thing is i'm no longer bothered with it since dumping the SEND TO and i'm not about to waste my time humting for a needle in a haystack over such a error easily remedied by removing SEND TO.

But i will keep your finding in mind for sure.

Thank You
