I have about $600 to spend and I was looking at the following 32 inch LCD's:

Sony 32 in. (Diagonal) Class LCD Integrated HDTV (720p), BRAVIA® - Model KDL-32L4000

Samsung 32 in. (Diagonal) Class LCD Integrated HDTV (720p) - Model LN32A330J1DXZA

but cannot decide which is better for gaming. These days are tough as you practically need a college degree to buy something as simple as a TV. Anyone experienced in this area can lend me their two cents?

Based on my experience, I would get a Sony. They are really reliable and have excellent image quality (especially the BRAVIA).

It might not be important to you, but for a sharper picture get a 1080p set rather than a 720p. It will be more expensive though unless you can find a sale.

Sharp has 1080p 32". Works well enough. If you're far enough from the screen, Toshiba makes a 40" 1080p for about $650.

Based on experience I can recommend Bravia sets. Samsung do have an excellent reputation too (partic. the R series).

Might be worth getting the extended warranty if it's cheap too. I expect my tv to last longer than 3 years :)

I have to disagree about the extended warranty. The set has a 1 year warranty anyway, and if anything will go wrong with it, it will probably happen shortly after you get it. After the set "burns in" it'll probably be good for at least 10 years. These extended warranty's are a free money maker for the so called insurance people.
