error installing aplications please help.

whenever i try to install some applications from my hard disk i get an error like
"error reading from the file so and so etc.msi.verify that the file exists and you can access it."and as i can see that the msi file is there.
in event viewer i get two event ids 11311 and 11305.
can anyone help to sort out this problem?
im using xp x64.

Try right clicking the installer - properties and see what options there are under the Compatibility tab?

no they work fine in other system running xp x64.
i think its security permissions problem.
i dont have user group except administrator in permissions tab.
can anyone tell how to reset permissions.

ok. i sorted it.
it was indeed a permissions problem.
i had to add a user group called system. and thats it.
