I would like to ask which portable software is best for mounting iso and other images , without installation.Priority is that it should be able to mount not just iso ,but other images types as well.

You appear prepared for trouble, so, why the hesitation with program installer's .... preconceived notions? Is there a specific purpose for these mounted images? Does the ability to mount various image formats take precedence over whether a program required installation, and if so, your preferred format?

BTW, much better than your previous thread opening - descriptive (http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#bespecific)!

You may find what you're after on Wikipedia's list of ISO image software. That or search free iso mounting software.

An interesting way to mount portable apps is to make an iso of your portable apps & then mount them to a virtual drive. resulting in a vritual cd of portable apps. The suggestion you use microsofts virtual cd program would work but so would Magic Disc, Daemon tools, Alcohol 52 pct. All are free.

The problem with the thinstall feature is that everything other than mounting works:-[ .I will try more and tell you.

It doesn't work because it needs the driver installed. I thinapped magiciso and installed magicdisc on my pc. they work together perfectly. But its not portable.

what about SHSUCD Suite (mounting iso for dos). would that work on ntfs or need fat to work?

===========
Description
===========

The SHSUCD suite is a set of programs dealing with the CD-ROM. They
allow access to the CD-ROM as a normal drive letter; create an image
file from the contents of a CD-ROM; access an image file as a drive; and
test certain CD-ROM functions.

You might look at filedisk14 http://www.acc.umu.se/~bosse/

I don't know if it achieves what you are looking for, but I have used it and it is pretty darn light. Just gotta know how to run without a GUI :)

Not sure if this is what your looking for or not. I've never tried it so use at your own risk.
