Hello,
I am currently trialing ESS and it won't update.
Is this one of those "since its a trial version you can't update" type of things?
Just wondering...

Try restarting your computer and see if you get an update. What security programs are you running?

Hello,
I rebooted and still not working.
ESS is the only security program that I have running.

In order to trial ESS you must have a license .
It should be entered in Update -> Username and password setup.
Register here and when you receive them , enter them and update :
http://www.eset.eu/download/ess-trial-form
Additionally , you can make sure you have the very latest build - 3.0.684 , which can be downloaded and installed over the current build

Hello,
I don't have a license, I downloaded the trail off of the net.
Is this illegal and should I uninstall ESS?
Thank you.

No , it is not illegal . In order to trial ESET Smart Security , you need to download the installer from the official ESET servers/websites (www.eset.com or www.eset.eu , servers download.eset.com)
In order to download and use the program you need a dedicated license , which is free and valid for 30 days . If you like ESS , you can purchase it after that.
I'd suggest you uninstall your current version from Control Panel (you never know where you got this version from and how old actually it is). Reboot the computer when prompted . After reboot , make sure Windows Firewall is (at least temporary) enabled - Control Panel -> Windows Firewall
Delete manually these folders:
for XP:
- C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application data\Eset
- C:\Documents and Settings\~username~\Local Settings\Application data\Eset
for Vista:
- C:\Program data\Eset
- C:\Users\~username~\AppData\Local\Eset
- C:\Users\~username~\AppData\Roaming\Eset
Visit this page and scan your computer for threats:

Using the license you'll receive via email , download the very latest version of ESS from http://www.eset.eu/ess-download/ess_nt32_enu . Reinstall your ESET software (read carefully the instructions) and enjoy . Use typical install. :thumb:

You can also download ESS v4 beta announced and discussed here (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18). It comes with an evaluation username/password in it.
