View Full Version : Does NOD32 Catch Adware?

Just installed NOD32 yesterday. My issue is a lot of adware that attaches to my computer, like DoubleClick software. I manually delete the software in my temporary files but 2 seconds later, 50 new DoubleClicks appear in the temporary file. Is NOD32 supposed to catch this crap or do I need separate software? thanks!

It is designed to catch adware but like all other cleaners nod32 can't catch 100%. I suggest you download an on-demand scanner like spybotSD or malwarebytes and clean your system.

Just to be sure, are we talking about real malware here or cookies?

I think they are cookies but I also see DoubleClick, which I am thinking is adware--no? I'm getting voices and commercials emanating from my computer, which I also imagine is adware-related.

DoubleClick tends to be cookies. You probably aren't infected, but I would do a scan to be sure. Whichever browser you are using, set it to block 3rd party cookies.

You can blocking unwanted cookies This Way (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/cookies.htm) assuming IE.

Thanks a million for the advice! I just re-set the privacy settings on my computer, as advised, and, hopefully, no more commercials coming from my computer. Thanks, again.

Your most welcome, you might consider running a HOSTS File (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm), too :thumb:

let me assume for the sake of argument it does, I would not bet my life on it to be effective.

Peace.

Can you elaborate? What can I do to minimize adware?

The first step will be to use firefox with adblock plus as an add-on. ~Off topic to this forum comments removed. - Ron~

I'm assuming Firefox is compatible with NOD32--Is this correct? Is Firefox superior to IE?

Yes firefox is compatible with NOD and indeed it is superior to IE.

Stating that FF is superior to IE is based on what data and/or information.
This thread has wandered OT...

Try SuperAntiSpyware as i think this has taken the lead from ad-ware & spybot.

Thanks. Is it compatable with NOD32 and isn't NOD32 supposed to get rid of adware?

It is very much so compatible and as far as spyware goes nod isnt particulary strong in that area like most av's where sas rules.

Whao, installed the SAS software which found about 50 adware/spywares. Not a peep out of my computer, so far, from ads. Kind of bummed that the NOD32 software, which I paid for, didn't find them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Super Antispyware could find 50 entries, but question is, what they was. ;)

Same applies for the so popular Malwarebytes AntiMalware.
MBAM detects just folders named like rogue appl. or picture files and flags them malicious/infected

Whatever they were, they were causing constant talking ads to emenate form my computer. Now, my computer is blissfully quiet.

Nod can help if you set it to protect against adware/malware/riskware and unwanted apps but.....

For adware and spyware dont count on Nod32 only, download and install SpywareBlaster and Spybot (Immunization). These protections runs as an host file i think...... Free download, free update and prevent the installation of spyware and other potentially unwanted software
