For ekrn.exe...

Mine has climbed some since going up to Version 4.. Right now I'm sitting around 50 Meg... I have 4 GB of memory though.. I do notice on systems with lower RAM it only uses about 7-10 Meg..

NEVER seen it 7-10mb, v3 is around 40-45 so v4 being 50 sounds normal.

which memory are we talking about?

In my Task Manager I have two processes related to ESET: ekrn.exe which is 15,328K and egui.exe which is 1,272K.
This values are in column "Memory (Private Working Set)".

So that is together about 16.5 MB

In column "Working Set (Memory)" two ESET entries add up to about 22MB

There is also "Commit Size" - that reports about 45MB for two ESET processes

So which of my values are comparable to yours?

My system has 4GB RAM

I think this is mixed up. ESS must be 40-45 whilst EAV must be 15~.

...Vista has updated the primary metric for measuring process memory since Windows XP. Both operating systems primarily measure a process' working set.....In Windows XP, each process is measured by its total working set. In Windows Vista the definition was changed to just be the private working set.

So, if we want to compare usage between XP and Vista, it looks like we have to use Vista's "Commit Size" (as mentioned by pemar). Or....not.....?

For me, on a variety of different XP machines, ekrn.exe has always been reported as 40-44MB in TM with v3. On an old XP machine, with only 512MB RAM, TM reports v4's mem usage for ekrn.exe as ~42MB.

FWIW.......

Pretty much this. Don't bother looking at this stuff until a release candidate is available.

And just to be sure , not until the 2nd version after the initial commercial release ;)

Or just not bother obsessing about a 10mb memory consumption difference in a world where systems are shipping with at least 2gb but apparently I am a crazy kook for thinking such a thing!

Nope just curious if memory usage has risen any. I'm not to concerned at all.
