Info: AVG is reporting possible false positive

AVG is reporting that NAV files are viruses! It seems that folks that have never used NAV are getting the reports, but they have used the on-line scanner at Symantec.

I got the "alert" too from AVG - the "infected" object is in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\NAVEX32A.DLL

I got this file through the on-line scan at Symantec. My guess is, this is a "false positive". Well wait and see :)

hi

i to have norton anti virus and when i ran avg this evening after doint sys reinstall it was saying that navex32a.dll was a virus file

but when i ran norton it reported that all is well is the just a fales positive or is this a virus file because iv been runing avg and norton side by side for a long time im just a lil concerned coz this has never happened befor

anyone know whats goin on ?? could someone please contact grisoft and find out and then post back here and let us know and mabe even get them to fix the problem if it is a fales positive

Since so many are seeing this, I think it's safe to say that's it's a false positive. I hope to get the contact for submissions for AVG.

Here is the official response from Grisoft:

thank you for the file - it is virus-free. I'm sorry, but your problem is caused by our software - this is false alarm. We will resolve the problem in next update.

I got the "message" Virus detected!
Virus Name: Maybe infected by unknown virus.

Infected object: C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\NAVEX32A.DLL
I had done the on-line scan at Symantec's a while ago ;D

Could only have been a "false positive" :D

Hello All!!
I had downloaded the AVG update #374 and then did a full scan of my system. I ended up with 8 false positives!
One was Norton Ulilities Navex32.DLL and the other was AntiVir AVPersonal\AVEWIN32.DLL. The other 6 were temp. i ternet files from AntiVir.
I have the free edition of AVG so I have no supprot but I e-mailed them anyway. I got an answer the next day from one
of their staff telling me that the new update # 375 would fix the problem. I downloaded this and then scanned my system again. It found no more problem with Navex32.DLL but it stil found a possible virus in AntiVir. I -mailed them back again and got an answer the next day. They wanted me to zip and password the AVEWIN32.DLL file and send it to them. I did as they asked and got another answer back telling me that it was a false positive and the cure would be out on Mon, July 15, 2002. I downloaded that file and re-scanned my system and now everything is OK! That file is #377. I was impressed that they even answered me back because I am not supposed to have any support. I thanked them very much for their help! I just wish most software companies were as helpfull!
