Backing up Firefox and Thunderbird

Hello, I just started using thunderbird and firefox over outlook express and internet explorer about 3-4 days ago.

I have a bunch of youtube videos saved in my firefox bookmarks and eight email accounts saved in thunderbird.

I would like to know how to backup and quickly reload these bookmarks and how to export my thunderbird email account settings.
I'm in the process of downloading new drivers motherboard, video, audio, monitor, and etc.

I plan to use Avira and Comodo or Outpost and Nod32 or Outpost and Avira on my new install with firefox and thunderbird.

I see comodo is preferred based on the polls forum for jun-dec 2008 firewall, but yet outpost scored 100% with matousec firewall testing.

I have noticed that firefox is alot more smooth and thunderbird filters better so I will definately be using this on my new setup.

I also noticed in your polls section that orbits downloader is preferred, well anytime I install on vista 64 it totally kills my internet connection, can someone please recommend a vista capable downloader.

The add-on Foxmarks is another option for your bookmarks. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410

For bookmarks you can also click- Bookmarks- Organize Bookmarks - Import and Backup - Export HTML and pick a location to safely tuck away. The first link is probably the best option to explore though.

FEBE is the addon you'd want to use when backing up Firefox-related files (i.e. extensions, themes, bookmarks etc.).

You can usually just copy your profile folders from app data and migrate them. Otherwise, there used to be a free app called 'mozbackup' that used to work quite well.

Just another take...

As bookmark manager I use delicious.com (http://delicious.com/), which has a great extension (http://delicious.com/help/installff) for firefox. It works excellent as backup, and it synchronizes between computers.

For Thunderbird I switched to an IMAP email service (http://email.about.com/od/freeemailreviews/tp/free_pop3_email.htm). My email messages and contact lists don't get lost when I reinstall my computer or switch computers or operating systems.

Maybe these suggestions won't work for you, but like I said: another take.

I used the recommended program MozBackup.

It saved and restored all of my bookmarks and account settings perfectly, thanks again.
