there's no problem , they said there taking there time to update . so you will get them in time.

zfactor

oh im sure i will i just think its kinda ridiculous imo that 5 pc's in the same household and only one gets the update. i just dont see how they choose which to sent it to and why they dont all get it when doing a manual live update.. just doesnt make sense imo

It might actually be a good thing, imagine if the newest version was found to have a serious bug, then all 5 of your systems could be corrupted.

i just see no ryhme or reason of who gets which version and when... icr did you get it automatically or did you do a live update? ive been updating this one on my desktop like every hour today just to see and nothing i have got no updates yet

probably works off product key with some sort of algorithm server side

product key xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx rolls dice, if 1-9 no update, if 10, update, then they go if 1-8 no update, if 9/10 update

would be my guess :)

I'm lucky ;D . (NAV2009) On three out off five I received the update. Still waiting for the other two. At this moment those two are having problems. (Security Content A error, after performing a manual update. There's a topic on there forum and apparently I'm not alone. This happend before on one of the five machine. I'm serious thinking on pulling the plug for this AV.

all of them got the update this morning so all 5 have 16.2 now..

Dunno if it's still applicable with todays versions....but years ago you could manually jump start an update on any norton/symantec product by doing Start==>Run==>LUALL

De Hollander
December 18th, 2008, 12:54 PM
LUALL doesn't work. If I'm right informed, liveUpdate has been redesigned. I do not believe there is an option to remove the virus defs cache.

Thanks :)

Update: it seems that for me the problem has been resolved on the two remaining pc's . Liveupdate just delivered a Security Content A update. Now I just have to wait for the program update.

- Fixed an issue with 64-bit LiveUpdate patches.

- Fixed several Winqual reported errors.

- Fixed a compatibility issue with Microsoft Outlook Connector after installation of Norton Add-On Pack.

Hi :)

I've never heard of Security Software before - Where...

1/ Making a Scheduled Scan is such a.. Big Deal - Hassle - Fuss - Pain! ::)

2/ As soon as we have a Big Update such as 16.2.0.7 ...
Any Scans Scheduled .. Won't Work! >:(
Coz... It's lost it's path :what:

If you ask me...
Symantec is still running up the wrong dam path.

Since summer 2008 when I first beta tested NIS 2009, I was not able to get LU to work properly and update as it should. Ironically, the latest build actually updated definitions, etc. That said, I gave up on it. When a major player in the AV industry cannot get their product to update properly (Live Update) because of obvious program bugs, you have to ask what else is it not good at doing? My conclusion is that I would rather trust another AV that has always updated properly.

The verdict (for me) regarding NIS 2009 is a big :thumbd:

Hi,

Just I gone through this thread and check NIS version on laptop.

It is latest one, it think, it was updated automatically.

Great, this is first time, when I have kept a security software for long time.

I Don't Trust The Way NIS 09 Updates :(

I'm not anywhere near as experienced with computers as a lot of other people here are :-[
However!
Something just doesn't feel right / ring true .. About the way NIS 09 Updates
Pulse Updates
Even though they have now been fixed ... I'm still not convinced Pulse Updates are real :-\

Automatic Live Update
Strange how it sometimes says it ran for just 1 second ... Yet - Complete :what:
Then I run Live Update myself... And get 2 to 4 Updates :o

Scheduled Scans
What a Joke!
What a Nightmare!
What a Con!

So Why Do I Keep NIS 09 On My Laptop?

1/ The NIS 09 Firewall
That's the one part of Norton I've always liked.
Easy for people with very little knowledge of Firewalls
Great if you've got Children.
Time and time again...
I get drawn back to Norton for it's Firewall.

2/ At The Moment...
For Me - There just doesn't seem any alternative to NIS 09
They all seem to have faults.

3/ It's Christmas ... & ... I'm Not Very Well!
So I just can't handle the thought of changing over to something new.

I Know One Thing Though...
I have NIS 09 On My Laptop
My Desktop Has - AVG 8 ( Paid ) .. & .. PC Tools Firewall Plus ( Free )
Even though I don't particularly like AVG 8 either.
My Desktop is always much happier and settled than my Laptop.
So there is No Way I'd ever put NIS 09 on my Desktop.
When my AVG 8 runs out... I Might Try - Avast
Not Sure Yet! ;)

Have you tried Eset Smart Security version 4? The firewall works in aoutomatic mode at default settings meaning wont bother you, though if you look in the firewall settings looks pretty dang advanced, ids n all

Hi :)

I Can't Believe I Forgot...

My Biggest NIS 09 - Pet Hate ... Idle Time!

Fine...
If you leave your computer on 24 hours a day.
Probably Fine...
If your computer is on for most of the day .. And often left idle.

NOT - Fine...
If your computer gets - Turned On - Used - Turned Off Again!
Idle Time Is A Nightmare >:(
Especially...
Norton Insight Scan
Norton Insight Submission
Background Full System Scan

I'm fed up with having to deliberately leave my Laptop Idle .. Just so NIS 09 can do a job.
Even Worse!
I can make a meal .. Eat a meal .. Wash up after the meal ... And still NIS 09 won't have done a job.
So...
I have to deliberately leave my laptop Idle... Until It Does! :'(

Why can't we just run the NIS 09 things - When We Want?
I know when I'm going to eat tea or take a bath.
NIS 09 ... Obviously - Doesn't! >:(

yeah that is annoying my desktop will go to sleep then pop back on for a bit then take time to go back to sleep this happens all day long.. really annoying i agree

rolarocka
December 23rd, 2008, 12:30 PM
I have turned off background Full System Scan and set idle timeout to 5 minutes. Never gets in the way for me. The background jobs stop immediately if you touch the mouse. But i agree on a laptop running background jobs isn't very good for battery life.

Hi rolarocka :)

-{ Quote: "I have turned off background Full System Scan and set idle timeout to 5 minutes. Never gets in the way for me. The background jobs stop immediately if you touch the mouse. But i agree on a laptop running background jobs isn't very good for battery life." }-

Yep! ... I've got my Idle Time set to 5 Minutes too! ;)

NIS 09 .. Doesn't Do Any Idle Jobs On Battery Power.
Good job I hardly ever use Battery Power ::)

To Be Honest...
When it comes to Full System Scans .. I haven't got a clue where I am at the moment :-[

Why?

Well...
After a few months of living with NIS 09
I got so fed up with Idle Full System Scans .. Like You .. I Turned It - OFF
I then tried to Schedule a Full System Scan
And ended up in a right pickle :argh:
Coz... NIS 09 Uses - Windows Task Scheduler
And was asking me for a Windows User Password .. Which I Don't Have Or want >:(
Not knowing how to get back to how I was - Idle Full System Scans .. I was in a right state :'(
Then I Finally Figured Out... I Could Bypass Giving A Password ;D
Either By...
a) Just Clicking OK Without giving a password
You get an error message.
But the Scan is still Scheduled.
Or By...
b) Just Clicking Cancel on the password box
No error message.
And the Scan is still scheduled.

So...
Weekly Full System Scan Scheduled and Working.. I Was Happy! ... For a While
Then Came The Big Update : 16.2.0.7
And just like everyone else that had Scans Scheduled with NIS 09 ... My Scheduled Scan Was Killed >:(
Apparently!
When NIS 09 has a Big Update .. Like : 16.2.0.7
Any Scans that we have Scheduled .. Will No Longer Work! :(
Why?
Coz... They loose their path ::)

So...
Having lost my Scheduled Full System Scan :'(
Yesterday I decided I would Delete it - As we're advised to!
But I Thought...
Rather than Schedule another one .. Just to eventually loose that one as well...
I thought I would just - Delete It!
Then not bother making a new one
I Decided...
From Now On.. I would just run a Full System Scan Myself - Once a Week!

Trouble Is!
When I deleted the Scheduled Full System Scan ... NIS 09 asked me did I want to go back to - Idle Full System Scans
I Thought... Better Had! .. While I've got the chance :-\
I can always turn them off again.
So Now...
I'm still waiting to see a - Idle Full System Scan .. Run! ::)

NIS 09 - :(

After ditching NIS 2009 for automatically removing something, I put the trial version AVG 8 IS on my desktop. Original idea was to use it until I could think of something else to run, but so far I like it, so maybe I'll keep it for the duration of the trial.

Although I'm Not A Huge Fan Of AVG 8 :-[
I Will Say..
AVG 8 - Has been far less problematic than - NIS 09 ;)
Doesn't cause any hangs when opening Firefox or IE7
And my Desktop Computer - AVG 8 .. Does feel like it's mine 8)

Where as My Laptop... Often feels like NIS 09 owns it :-[

I really like the AVG 8 - Link Scanner :D

What I Don't Like About - AVG 8 ...
Expensive for what you get.
After an update... Killed my AOL Software :'(
Hammers my Hard Drive and Core 2 Quad - CPU when it scans :argh:
Would have preferred to have the Full AVG Suit
But after reading in a magazine that the AVG 8 - Firewall is complicated ... Decided to just go for the AVG 8 - Antivirus & Antispyware
I Don't Know Really... Just Not Impressed! :-\
