can you recommend a free antispyware product, to work alongside avira free, preferably without real-time protection, with a good and accurate (few false positives) detection rate

Avira will cover spyware protection at a certain level because the AV-s differ in
the way they name the malware but SAS or MBAM or both are more then a must in addition. Spyware terminator will do some work but it is very week in terms of detection and terribly useless in terms of cleaning. Avast will be a more complete AV for it will cover all .

I expect to be shouted down, but I use Comodo BoClean (realtime protection!) with Avira free, and I feel very well protected. Haven't had a malware incident in I can't remember when.
I also use Online Armor, keep my data on a NAS, and backup regularly with Paragon Drive Backup.

I have Avira Free (High Hueristics), Threatfire(level 3) and the windows FW running on a Win XP Home pc and it runs great. Avira free will catch some spyware and threatfire will catch the rest. For on-demand SAS, MBAM or A2 square.

You probably dont need an AS, but if you want to use one, I would go for A Squared.

Most spyware is picked up by surfing questionable websites,so keep this in mind as well. I Never have any spyware found when doing a scan,as I never frequent questionable websites either.
Common sense is the "best protection" you can have,PERIOD!

For real time scanning alongside avira I would recommend Windows Defender followed by Spyware Terminator.

I have Avira free, and once a week i scan my system SAS and MBAM (working only on-demand) - these application never found any spyware/malware on my system but I also using Online Armor with BlueTack Lists (spyware, hijacked, iana, proxy, adTracker, dshield, education list) and MVPS HOSTS File and Opera/FF is my browser, maybe this is the reason :)

I like MBAM. I saw that a lot of security clean up forums used it, so I knew it was the one for me. I haven't regretted my decision. :thumb:

IMO, MBAM has not so good detections rate (rare false positives) and A-SQUARED has great detections rate with often false positives. I am using A-SQUARED. For inexperienced user recommend MBAM, for experienced A-SQUARED.

actually, MBAM has some of the best detection rates there is for antispyware applications.

Agreed, you may get some FPs with A Squared, but its in a league of its own - miles better than anything else.
A squared and Avira are the best AM scanners on the market, so used in combination, you should be safe.
If you are ever unsure as to wether you have a FP, try one of the many multi engine web based scanners out there such as http://virusscan.jotti.org and make your own mind up.

Are you talking about A-squared Free or A-squared Anti-Malware?

Either. I use the full paid version of A Squared which has realtime protection. I understand however, with the Free version, if you select beta updates it will upgrade to V4 with the A2 AND Ikarus engines, but run without the realtime function.
I have Avira Premium and A2 running realtime - no conflicts and fast and light.

A-SQUARED Free (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/) (without real time protection) powered by A-squared and Ikarus is out of beta. It is exceptional (on-demand) antimalware with great detection rates and capabilities.
