Hi, all.
I'm currently using DW and it's doing a pretty good job as far as I can tell.
But, of course, there is the ongoing problem that Ilya is having with a free lance programmer.
GW is possibly not being actively updated/improved.
So what else is out there, for XP, in the form of so called 'soft HIPS' that's easy to use yet very effective?
Thanks.

You could try Mamutu - or even better, A squared, which includes Mamutu functionality with the best AM scanner out there. I believe you can get it for $5 at the moment as it is being discounted for a few days.

I run it with Avira and its all the protection I need.

Is it any good?
I have no way of testing it.

Hmm. XP? I have decided on the typical layered approach. I find I have issues running in a LUA, so I run in Admin.

Cyberhawk 1.1.1.3
Avira Free
Opera or Kmeleon for browser
Sandboxie for all my browsers with locked down settings (locked reg keys, locked down inet access to all but allowed apps, etc)
SRP with the Basic User setting.. all of my inernet facing apps I use are now locked down to a basic user.. even before Sandboxie
Windows Firewall
Currently toying with different ways to implement IPsec rules to strengthen things, such as only allowing port 53 access to my specific DNS ip addresses.

Pretty simple, and since I know what I am doing, pretty effective. I don't know how it would fare in the hands of beginner though.

Sul.

Do you suffer from the same malady that I do-short attention span?
I'm looking for 'soft' HIPS other than DW and GW.
There doesn't seem to be much available.

Soft HIPS? Well, there was this chubby chick I knew & her hips were kinda soft BUT... (back on-topic) maybe you might take a look at BufferZone (http://www.trustware.com/products/home/howItWorks/). As to a soft classic, OnlineArmor (http://www.tallemu.com/) also merits a look, I'd say.
