View Full Version : Resizing Occupied Partitions With DDS 10

When I first set the size of my audio archive, I only had dialup and thought that I would never fill the 20GB partition that I made, but have filled it very quickly since going cable...therefore I need to increase it's size considerably. DDS works very well for this purpose, but I have never used it on occupied partitions before. The problem is that the archive partition is sandwiched between two other partitions on and extended partition, and the only one that I could empty very easily is a 14GB drive that has about 3GBs of data, but 14GBs is not enough. The question is whether or not this program can safely resize a partition without data loss?

In most cases, the answer is yes. However, I always advise people to create a backup image of the drive prior to making any partitioning changes just in case something goes wrong.

Yes, I understand the wisdom of making a backup, but I guess that I'm looking for shortcuts, so perhaps I lack the wisdom necessary. That aside, another question arose...I could take the free space from a partition prior to the ones on the extended partition, which includes the audio archive that I want to resize. If I do that, will DDS increase the size of the extended partition along with the logical drives, or would that somehow foul things up?

DD will move the data around as required to put the free space where you want it. The more it has to move, the more chance of something going wrong. DD will change the size of the Extended Partition Container as required.
