I use Hibernate all the time when complete shut down is not wanted.

Very often after a while on hibernate, my computer suddenly switches on by itself. I am using Windows XP.

This is not good at all, since I may be away for a while and the purpose of hibernate is to put the PC into an almost no-power state whilst retaining screen data. If it switches on, then I may as well have left it on in the first place.

Has anybody a clue how to stop this ?
:argh:

I wonder if your network adapter/modem allows you to wake, come out of hibernation, have a look at the properties there then power management.

Perhaps have a look round kellys korner(google) (http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&q=hibernation+site%3Awww.kellys-korner-xp.com&meta=&btnG=Google+Search) ;D

Is this a laptop or a tower? I read that hibernate is used primarily for laptops to conserve the battery, and Standby is used on desktop tower computers. I use Standby on my desktop when I'm away from my computer up to a few hours. :) :)
