Protection for a 13 year olds laptop

Hi, i have got hold of a laptop for my 13 year old son for xmas.

It has the AMD SEMPRON2800+ and 512mb of ram and a 40 gb hard drive running Windows XP.

I have bought a license of DefenseWall for him.
I will also install Returnil, K9 web protection, and Firefox with NoScript, AdBlock Plus and WOT as he is now used to using them on our home computer.

What other programs would you recommend that i install to protect.
I do not really want to buy any other software except maybe SuperAntiSpyware`s lifetime license.

My initial thoughts are Avast and SuperAntiSpyware along with the above.

Obviously with him only being 13 years old i do not want anything with a lot of pop ups, although he is very good when it comes to computer security and makes good use of NoScript and WOT, i do not want to over complicate things for him so i would prefer only a simplified approach to the rest of his security.

I have a license for Drive Sentry but i think the pop ups associated with this would be too much for him to understand as they are not always very clear.

Any advice and suggestions greatly appreciated :)

Why won't you let him learn returnil or anything similar to that.
Just exclude some folders and let him only install software if you trust it first.

I forgot to add Returnil in the original post (now corrected)

However, i do not want him to rely on using Returnil as i want him to get in the habit of using security products, and the importance of having them and of their value and keeping them updated etc.

And you can guarantee that the first time he forgets to start Returnil will be the first time he encounters malware.

Do a favour to your son (and to yourself):

Create an administrator account password protected.
Under this account install DW.

Create another administrator account with the name of your son. let him configure his account as he wishes. Then convert it to a limited user account.

He won't be able to install anything anymore unless YOU agree, and YOU do it (under admin account).
He won't be able to jeopardize the security and the integrity of the computer as well as his own security.

Don't forget to install a parental control application?

I have a 13 year old daughter.

I've tried K9 & would suggest replacing K9 with CyberPatrol which I find an excellent piece of software.
