My friend got a new cable modem and now her internet connection is slow.

She can go online but it takes a while. She can log onto AIM but it takes a long time for it to do anything. What could be causing this???

If she has antispyware software / internet security suites installed, that might cause the problem. You need to have only the basics.

1.basic in/out firewall (not the bloated suite)
2.basic antivirus (free avg 8.0 will work good)
3.firefox 3.0 browser (safe for the internet)
4.use the free returnil when surfing the internet (very good at preventing malware from staying on your computer)

I had a similar problem with my cable internet, I blamed the internet provider but, when I uninstalled my antispyware software (webroot spyware sweeper) that fix everything.
