a few days ago, i turned off ess's antivirus protection and other "anti" components and only left its firewall on.
yesterday i saw a post on ess's web protection and i decided to try it out.

i switched on ess's protocol filtering and web protection.
and then i download several known virus sample archives. no alert was give during the process. i restarted my firefox and try again, no alert shown .
i opened the archive, still no alert until i extracted the virus to my desktop. the realtime protection warned me and removed the file.

i think i must have messed up ess's settings so i clicked [default] in the [advanced] window to revert all the settings to default. then the tray icon went green. I try the above procedure again. still no luck to get a web protection alert.

i supposed the web protection should be able to be switched on/off on the fly. but it cant, not until next reboot. is there something wrong with my current ess4 installation or is it supposed to be so?

anyone interested in this issue?
please just try disabling all your protection(web protection, protocol filtering, email protection, realtime protection .etc ) One by One and reboot. Make sure the tray icon is red then turn them on to make it green. Grab some virus samples from the net and see if web protection works.

thanx

I'm guessing but I assume the web protection doesn't scan the content of archives, due to the performance impact that would come with that. They are harmless until they are extracted.

hello jack

but some other ess4 user downloaded the same sample archive and received alert. he has even posted a screen shot.

i didnt see the alert, i guess if i reboot with ess4's default setting, ess4 should work.
the problem here seems to be that if i disable all of ess4's protection and reboot, I cant enable its web protection without another reboot.
and if this is real the case, users should be informed.
