Has anyone else with their Linksys router and new firmware upgrade
been using the ZoneAlarm-Pc-Cillin Combo offered at a 50 percent discount as part of the firmware intergration package?
Kind of a neat deal huh?

Nope. Nice marketing though - although personally, I wouldn't pick any of these as my first line in defense.

Nope - not that bad at all. personally, I do prefer a zyxel:

Really? (grin)

Yep. I do know.

Sure; no doubt about that. It's merely I'm not that fond of marketing strategies, putting price first, and quality way back. IMHO it should be the other way around; that's all ;)

I picked the 3com 3c510 because I figured 3com has more experience with network stuff than these compnies who develop residential stuff mostly. Like Lynksys, Dlink, NetGear. They aren't really synonomous with quality now are they.

3com is getting out of the networking business, and is selling off USRobotics which it has owned for some time now. The tech guy I talked to when i heard this wasn't sure if they would still give tech support until I reminded him of the 5 year warrantee they promised me ;)

So if 3com doesn't sell them anymore I don't know who I'd recommend. It wouldn't be on eof those three I mentioned though.

Perhaps kinston or Seimens? They both make good ram, maybe their routers are good too? I dunno

Hi Allan,

You mentioned NetGear.
Well, some (if not all ?) of their routers are based on ZyXels, as far as I know; and it could be that the original ZyXels are better, but I'm now a bit guessing maybe...
(or am I talking bs now?).

LOL, we all talk a little BS from time to time. I generally delimit my BS with "maybe" or "I dunno" so people don't think I am 100% confident in what I just said. ;)

You maybe right, but I still won't buy something that comes in a packaged "kit" with two $15 network cards.

I'm still waiting for my Linksys WAP54a. 802.11a. It's been sold out in LA for as long as I've been a lookin'.
I have found out that the "turbo" mode doesn't work with XP. The only reason I am going wireless is to free my wife from my supertweaking bondage when I screw up and the PC is down for days at a time. ;D

She has XP on her Sony GRX550. I kinda promised her I wouldn't supertweak it. Don't tell her but I have. Just a couple things here and there but that's it.

I checked out the ZyXels site and I didn't see a wireless router with 802.11a. Oh well.

For you Linux users some interesting wireless/GPS/mini/notebook/OS-LINUX links as I got lost surfing but I figured UNICRON would understand it for sure. Toys.

Since this is a security site this link will be amusing or is it? Young kids walking around with laptops in the middle of the night in weird places is the theme here. The author makes my paranoia seem like child's play.

You're right. Just had a look there too; only things are ZyAir PCMCIA cards, if I read it well.

My router finally shows up tomorrow. It appears that Aug 12th through 15th the new Linksys 802.11a will appear en mass at a store near you. It had slipped my mind I'd even ordered it it's been so long.

Darn thing better have range for me to walk up and down the block with my wife's laptop and have still have connection.

Now for the setup....I feel pain coming my way....from myself...
