I currently use the free trial EZ AV (vet) and am quite happy with low mem usage, frequent updates etc but am concerned that it does not have an email scanner. Can anyone suggest a better AV than EZ that does scan email, bearing in mind that EZ trumps AV's like KAV and Dr Web in the VB awards. Also I need one with a reasonably low resource usage, i found F-secure to much of a memory hog.

Hi Scooby. There are two programmes that protect your mail for EZ ( that is in addition to your real time monitor)
http://www.webattack.com/get/etrustpe.html (e trust content inspection)
http://www.webattack.com/get/etrustmail.html (e trust mail watcher)

You say that you are using a trial EZ ( vet ) anti virus . Do you know that there is a free one year package of EZ anti virus ( same as you are trialing) and a EZ firewall . http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/
The EZ firewall has email protection (safe mail) I like the firewall however it may or may not be a bit of a drag on the sysytem.

There is a further free e trust available called the e trust promo It contains both Vet and InnoculateIT engines Its free also http://www3.ca.com/Solutions/Collateral.asp?CID=41370

Hi, thanks for info. I am using the EZ 1 year free AV. Is the e trust promo just for windows 2003 server ? it says that on the web site. I am using win 98 and did not install the firewall from the EZ as it is a memory hog and I already have outpost.

Hello,

I'm not using EZ Trust Antivirus myself as I read it doesn't scan emails - that's the main reason I'd require an AV software. Thanks for posting links to add-ons for it which should provide email scanning?

I don't have it installed and I wouldn't like to download 10 megs worth of software (I'm on modem and I pay by hour) just to test it and find out that it doesn't work. I see that add-ons are dated 2000 (?) and I am not sure weather they are updated or support XP? Can anyone verify if these work and email scanning is functioning? I know I'm being pain but if anyone who's using this software can help me out I'd be most grateful. :)

regards,

richter

I have the e Trust promo and like it very much .
I dont use the EZ Firewall as It is a bit of a drag on my system here n there.

As far as the email ad ons go richter Minicross may be along to give his experiences with them . I personally use "Benign" http://www.firetrust.com/products/benign/ . however there is also "Mailwasher free" http://www.mailwasher.net/ and thats very good to preview your mail. however you are well protected with your "real time "scanner any ways . Anti virus protection for the mail is as good as its last update . If you are using outlook express then you may take some basic precautions ie

Thank you very much for the information you provided me with. I was aware of mailwasher (spam protection) but I wasn't familiar with Benign. It does sound exactly what I am after, so I'll give it a go. I know EZ can do on-access scanning but I don't like keeping AV running as I run on old computer and I just like do email scanning and that's it. I don't open any attachments unless I check them first and I'm careful - no infections so far. You can't never be too careful.

Thanks!
