October 29, 2008 (Computerworld) Mozilla Corp. is considering just two more security updates for Firefox 2.0 before it retires the browser at the end of this year.

"We're starting to consult the [development] community for feedback," said Mike Beltzner, the director of Firefox, prior to setting a final 'end-of-life' date. If all goes according to plan, the last update for the older browser will be Firefox 2.0.0.19. The current build of Firefox 2.0 is 2.0.0.17, which was released last month to patch 14 vulnerabilities." }-Article (http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9118458)

I for one have after being an immovable diehard IE loyal finally can honestly feel now is the right time, and number 3 the right version, of FF to make a concerted and deliberate transition over to it after trialing the latest beta.

I look forward to this great FF experience that so many others have long enjoyed and placed their trust in themselves.

I see no advantage to holding onto v2.xx, time to move forward with the new and enjoy.... :)

I tried version 3, but went back to version 2.

I use Cookie Monster as the best way of handling cookies. Firefox 3 doesn't work with it. I'll go back to IE before I'll give up Cookie Monster's control.

I used Cookie Monster when I was using version 2. When I went to ver.3 I started using Cookie Culler where you can save the cookies you want in. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/82

A tiny install.rdf tweak will fix that for most, if not all, Firefox extensions.

Wow.

Y'all are concerned about FF2 compatability and I am looking forward to how to maintain current function in FF3.1 after migrating off my current FF 3.0.3.

FF2 is dead, folks.

FF2 is the last gasp for Win98 & Me systems. If the machine has sufficient RAM, an upgrade to Windows 2000 (recommended minimum 64 MB), extends the life of that PC, with all patches, and able to use FF3 besides being supported by MS until 2010:
Microsoft Support Lifecycle (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=3071&x=6&y=12).

For $100, or less if used, there are still Win2K copies online: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Upgrade [OLD VERSION] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00003JAU7/sr=/qid=/ref=olp_tab_new?ie=UTF8&coliid=&me=&qid=&sr=&seller=&colid=&condition=new).
