View Full Version : Secure sites -logout or just close browser ?

I always logout rather than just closing the browser, but on rare occasions
like today, this was not possible. The secure site in question is built for IE and
hence the 'logout' button was missing in Opera (even when masking as IE).
Would there be any security risks in just closing the browser if the computer
is not shared ?

Always always always always log out. Anyone can steal your session URL or cookie and assume your logged-in session otherwise.

Agreed, always log out. What if you walk away from your computer for a minute and someone else gets on it? A couple of quick clicks and they could be right where you left off, posing as you.

Yes, thanks for your replies.
I was running sandboxed and deleted the sandbox right
after closing the browser which takes care of the cookies.
I really hate it when login is fine only to discover later
that a site is not geared to browsers other than IE ....

Be sure to run antivirus and antispyware. Sandboxes do NOT prevent malicious websites from installing malware.

Thanks for your concern SteveTX. :thumb:
I am well protected in that regard - Avira PE Premium, Proxomitron, Comodo FW... (plus system hardening).
Also the sandbox was configured to only allow Opera access to the
internet so that even a keylogger that might have been there before
cannot connect. I also regularly use on-demand MBAM, a2 free. They never find
anything probably because of the sandbox and Returnil. I always run both so
that should the sandbox prove inadequate, on reboot all is clean again.
