I have the 4.x version and don'´t see much incentive to go to the new version in that Martau has decided to split his program between a normal and pro version. The pro version does not offer much more than the 4.x version other than it will cost you $10 more to upgrade ($19 Normal or $29 Pro),. It's rather sad to see this happening.
From what I have experienced, you will get free updates for about a year if you are lucky. If you purchased the product within the last 6 months of the new release, you can get a free upgrade. You can usually skip a release and still upgrade later at the lower price. I.e. 3.x and 4.x users can upgrade to the 5.x at a reduced rate.
IMHO having a Pro and normal version of any product is just another way of milking the cow.

Yes, very sad because this is a very good softy. I also tried this new release and decided to stay with the 4.95 version that is very similar to their "new professional" one... And this new GUI candyesque feeling is not my taste at all.
And from the info I saw on next Tuneup Utilities 2009, it will probably be another pass for me, even with their 19.95 discount price offer (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21204481-Info-Tuneup-Utilities-2009-Preorder)!

{QUOTE-> From what I have experienced, you will get free updates for about a year if you are lucky. If you purchased the product within the last 6 months of the new release, you can get a free upgrade. <-QUOTE}To be fair, version 4.xx has been released and updated for a year and a half. However I'd certainly agree with the sentiments expressed about splitting versions (making the basic 5.x effectively a downgrade). Not keeping previous copies available for download is also less than helpful - was your forum thread deleted there ellison64?
I'll be skipping this version also - aside from Plimus (Martau's payment processor) being a PITA to deal with (they insist on a phone number, which no-one serious about privacy is going to give to any old website) I'd agree that the UI seems to be going downhill, the upgrade price is too high (for the "Professional" version) and the upgrade intervals too short.
It's a pity to see this happen as I have made heavy use of Total Uninstall since version 2 (and will continue with version 4) but I will now have to stop recommending it to others.
This cow's not for milking... ;) Time to turn the udder cheek. :P

Im not sure if my thread was deleted however ,after posting at the forum ,the updater in total uninstall was altered so that it did allow me to download the last available 4 version.

I joined a thread at the TU forums about the new upgrades and posted my sentiments there similar to what I did here and asked that Mr. Martau rethink his decision. A day or two later, the whole thread was gone.
