Just a quick question. I installed xp pro on my computer and after the install and everything was working well I noticed there is no system restore not even a partition for it. Any one else have this. I usually wouldnt put a screen shot for something like this I just want you to see what drives there are. In system defrag it does not show a partition for restore either

Hi bigc,

I don't have XP-Pro, but my system restore is within the C drive, not partitioned separately on another drive.

Try this:
Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->SystemTools-->there should be a SystemRestore there to click on.

It says system restore can not be found.. It is just not there.

That is strange. The only other thing I can think of that a system restore would not be showing up, would be if you were logged in under a limited account (not Administrator)....but I'm sure you already checked that. humm... :-\

I just got through going through all the files on c drive and it is not there my total install size including all the apps that I have installed is only 2.8 gigs. Not enough room for a restore

It may be a file (or 3) missing that isn't making the System Restore available.

If you haven't tried this already, put your XP-Pro CD in then go to Start-->Run-->and type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes) and see if that will bring up any files that may still need installed for the System Restore.

I really don't want the restore on my computer it doesn't work worth a cra# anyway. But I am curious where it went because it sure isn't on this system. Just for general knowledge I had xp home on here and I did a clean install to xp pro. With xp home the restore was on a seperate partition which was fat 32. I have no fat partitions on here now. ???

I am searching for anything similar to your problem, but there doesn't seem to be much on it. Came across something though that briefly mentioned that the system date could have been set incorrectly.

Hopefully somene with XP-Pro may come in and offer more options to help you figure this out. I'm curious now too. ???

You may still want System Restore, bigc. On FAT32, no the restore is not always that stable. But on NTFS, yes it is stable. I have used it myself twice in 2 yrs, and awful glad it was there. :)

The only thing I can think of is that this is a custom xp pro and possibly it never was on the install disc.I will contact the dealer that I got the os from and have them check with MS to see what the actual specs are.I will let you know what I find out. I am not worried it is not there because I don't like the restore system anyway but it has me very curious. ??? Thanks for your help. enjoy a cookie.

That sounds like a plan, bigc :) Please do post back what you find out. I am really curious as to what would cause it, and I'm sure it would help someone else too.

Yep it is not installed on this comp. at all ??? When this version of xp pro was customized to run and boot faster they may have left it off. I will have to do some research with the company that I got it from for eval. I get a lot of eval and full apps through my business but this one has me a bit curious. ;)
